Kay A. Meecha (nee Bara), 81, of Elyria, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 20 at Lorain Estates Senior Living. She was born on November 22, 1944, in Elyria, where she remained a lifelong resident. Kay was a 1962 graduate of Elyria High School and built a career that reflected her strong work ethic and leadership. She worked at A&P and later at Kroger, where she served as head of the deli department. She later worked in payroll for the City of Elyria Auditor's Office, retiring after many years of service.
Kay also had a passion for serving her community and played a significant role in many local organizations. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, where she formed lasting friendships and shared her commitment to service. She worked for many years at the voting polls at McKinley School, served as Treasurer of Little League East while helping to run the concession stand, was Boy Scout Treasurer at McKinley School, and volunteered much of her time with the Elyria High School Band Boosters. She also ran concessions for Elyria High School football, basketball, and wrestling teams. No matter the role, Kay was always willing to step in and help whenever she was needed.
Above all else, Kay's greatest love was her family. Her grandchildren were the center of her world, and she loved celebrating their accomplishments and spending time with them. She had a special gift for making holidays magical, especially Christmas, which she eagerly anticipated every year. Through thoughtful gifts and heart-warming family traditions, she brought happiness to those she loved. Kay was also an avid Cleveland Guardians and Cavaliers fan, and she loved watching game shows, including Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.
Survivors include her sons, Mark and Rob Meecha, both of Elyria; daughter, Michelle McConeghy (Jeff) of Oberlin; grandchildren, Ashley Rankin (Darren), Melanie Meecha, Connor McConeghy, and Breanna McConeghy; sisters, Barbara Balcik (Frank) of Lorain and Mary Jane Gleason of Vermilion; and sisters-in-law, Carolyn Bara and Joan Payne.
