Karen Nellie Wahl (Powelson), age 80, of Portage, MI, peacefully passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2025 while in the midst of prayer with family at home. Born in Martins Ferry, OH, she was a long time resident of Elyria, OH, only recently having moved to Michigan. She was a graduate of Elyria High School. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Kenneth Wahl, parents, Margaret Powelson (Williamson) and Warren Powelson; and brother, Warren Dale Powelson (Mary Ellen). Karen is survived by her 4 beloved sons, Matthew (Trish), Daniel (Melanie), Brian (Elsa), and Brad (Theresa). Siblings Willard "Bud" Powelson (Lena), Sharen Cheesman (Powelson) and David "Joe" Powelson (Linda). She will also be dearly missed by her 13 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Karen was a beloved baker to her community, and so much more to her children and grandchildren. She was known for her humor, proficiency with knitting and crocheting, love of card games, and skills in the kitchen. She was a loyal member of Grace Lutheran Church where she and her husband were the first to be married in the building. While attending Grace Lutheran she served in several ministries including Altar Guild, Stephen's Ministries, served in the kitchen for many events, and made prayer shawls for many people with Hooks and Needles. Family will receive friends from 9:30AM - 10:30AM on Friday, April 4, 2025 at Grace Lutheran Church, 9685 E. River Road, Elyria, OH 44035 with a funeral service to follow at 10:30AM. Pastor Robert F. Weldon, Sr. will officiate. Burial will follow at 12PM at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon, OH.
