Karen Ellen Mitchell (nee: Jolley), 82, of Elyria, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2023 surrounded by her loving family after a long illness. She was born November 5, 1940 in Elyria, Ohio and was a 1958 graduate of Elyria High School. Karen worked in the ER at Elyria Memorial Hospital for over 27 years. She loved spending time with her family and working in her gardens with her rescue dogs. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Thomas Mitchell; her 5 children, Timothy (Laurie) Mitchell of Avon Lake, James (JoAnn Kupiec) Mitchell of Chicapee, Massachusetts, Kelly (Steve) Karels of Batavia, Illinois, John (Jenn) Mitchell of Grafton, and Kerry (Frank) Feniello of Columbia Station; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Earl (Janis) Jolley; sisters, Cheryl (Mike) Fenik of Wellington and Diane (Bob) Krugman of Florida. She is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Elvera Jolley; daughter, Ann; brother, Ronald Jolley; granddaughter, Ashley Mitchell. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023 from Noon until the time of service at 2 PM at the Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Road (at State Rt. 57) Elyria, Ohio 44035. Pastor Arik Borstad from Community of Faith UCC will officiate. A private burial at Ridge Hill Memorial Park will be held at a later date.
