Obituary

Judith "Judy" Shepard (née Crozier), 81, of Elyria, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Sunday 3/2/ 2025, in Elyria. Born on September 26, 1943, in Elyria, Judy lived a life filled with love, dedication, and cherished memories. Judy was the beloved wife of William "Bill" Shepard, her devoted husband of nearly 60 years. Their love story began at Elyria High School, where they met and graduated together in 1961. Shortly after their marriage, Judy and Bill spent the first year and a half of their life together in Augusta, Georgia, while Bill completed his Army service. This marked the beginning of a lifetime of shared adventures and unwavering companionship. Judy was the proud mother of two daughters: Sandra Brisbin (Eddie) and Susan Shepard (Charlie Rothkegel). She also leaves behind her sisters-in-law Sue Cowden (William) and Donna Shepard. Her family was her greatest joy, and she treasured the time spent with them. She was predeceased by her parents, Hank and Neva Crozier; her brothers Richard and Thomas Crozier; her in-laws Rowland and Francis Shepard; and her brother-in-law David Shepard. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life. Judy had a deep connection to her hometown of Elyria. After High School she worked at Elyria Memorial Hospital for a time, later dedicating several years as a volunteer there. Her commitment to community extended to the Elyria Apple Festival, where she was an active volunteer for many years, regularly staffing the headquarters booth with enthusiasm and pride. For over a decade, Judy and Bill spent their winters as residents of Poinsettia Park in Fort Myers, Florida. There, she became an integral part of the social club events, particularly enjoying hosting 50/50 raffles that brought neighbors together. Her warmth and friendly nature made her a cherished member of both communities she called home. An avid reader with a sharp mind for crossword puzzles and other brainteasers, Judy found joy in simple pleasures. She was a lifelong follower of the Cleveland Indians (now Guardians) and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on her team. Her love for animals was evident through her lifelong affection for cats—companions who brought her comfort from childhood until her final days. Judy also enjoyed camping and travel that took her across the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. These journeys enriched her life with unforgettable experiences that she loved to share with those around her. Judy's legacy is one of kindness, dedication to family and community, and an enduring zest for life's small joys.

May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her. Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the Friendship APL 8303 Murray Ridge Rd.
