Joy E. White (nee: Johnston) 90, of North Olmsted (formerly of Elyria) passed away Friday December 20, 2013 at West Bay Care and Rehabilitation Center in Westlake following a long illness. She was born April 24, 1923 in Elyria Twp. Joy was a 1941 Oberlin High School graduate. She was a founding member of The Church of The Open Door, a member of The Professional Woman's Club, and volunteered at Elyria Memorial Hospital. Joy loved singing traditional hymns, and enjoyed travel, interior decorating, landscaping. Survivors include her husband Robert E., two daughters; Leora J. Fix (Ozzie) of Franklin, NC, Diana L. Aguilara (Michael) of Elyria, OH, a son; Benjamin "Randy" of Nankin, OH. Additional survivors include five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, three sisters; Dorothea Ruhl of CA, Rebecca "Becky" Gardner of Grafton, Joan Oblinger of CA. Joy was preceded in death by her parents; Dick and Ruth (nee: Simms) Johnston, two sisters; Roberta and June, three brothers; Frederick, John and Donald. Funeral services 1:00 PM Thursday December 26, 2013 at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57) Elyria (440)322-4626 where the family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until time of services at 1:00 PM Thursday. Rev. Bob Wickens will officiate.
