Joseph "Joe" P. Shairba, 83, formerly of Grafton, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at St. Anne's Hospital in Westerville, Ohio. He was born in Amherst on February 22, 1941 to parents Joseph F. and Mary (nee: Truszak). Joe was a 1959 graduate of South Amherst High School. He married his sweetheart, Janet (nee: Lakocy) in 1963. Joe retired from Ridge Tool as a tool and die maker after 46 years of employment. He enjoyed working on cars with his brothers-in-law, bicycling, cheering on Ohio State football, Cleveland football and baseball, and playing with his beloved dogs. Survivors include his wife; daughter, Marcia Cronin (Floyd Hunt); sisters, Carole and Cynthia Shairba; granddaughter, Caitlin Cronin (who was the apple of his eye). He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Michael; and sister, Virginia Dawson.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024 from 11 AM until the time of service at 1 PM at the Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Road in Elyria. Reverend Father John P. Seabold, Pastor of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Brookdale Cemetery in Elyria.
