Joseph Aaron Kalo 78, of Elyria passed away Tuesday October 25, 2022 at O'Neill Healthcare in North Ridgeville following a long illness. He was born April 11, 1944 in Elyria and was a 1962 Elyria High School graduate. Joseph served in the Unites States Navy Reserve and spent two years of active duty on the U.S.S. Harold J. Ellison as an aviation jet mechanic while overseas in Spain and Bermuda. He resided in Elyria for thirty four years, and then moved to Lake Champlain St. Albans, Vermont for twenty eight years prior to returning to Elyria in 2006. Joseph did carpentry work after his Navy service, and then worked for Russell Realty in Sheffield.  While in Vermont he was a commercial construction supervisor for The Engleberth Company at the IBM facility in Burlington, Vermont.  He enjoyed fishing on Lake Erie and Lake Champlain, camping in his younger years, and visiting casinos later in life.  Joseph was an avid crossword puzzle solver, collected and watched great action films, and reading detective stories by Lee Childs and James Patterson. He was a member of Elyria Eagles, Elyria United Polish Club, V.F.W. Post #1079, AMVETS Post#32, and spent many hours with friends at The Pub. Survivors include a brother; Daniel F. Kalo (Judy nee: Star), a sister; Laura T. Knowles (David R. Knowles), many nieces, nephews, and two stepsons, and step grandchildren in Vermont. Inurnment will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio where full military honors will be provided at a later date.
