Joseph J. Chobody Jr., 81 of Elyria passed away peacefully at his home on Monday April 3, 2023 surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on March 9, 1942 in Rural Valley, PA. and was an Elyria area resident for most of his life, graduating from Midview High School in 1960. Following graduation, he joined the United State Army and was stationed in El Paso Texas, upon returning home he opened Joe's restaurant and bar which he operated for 58 years. Over the years Joe sponsored many little league and adult sports teams and enjoyed drag racing, softball, bowling , golf and gardening. He also had a love for music, and when he was younger, along with family and friends formed a band. He was a proud volunteer for the Carlisle Township Fire Department as an EMT and firefighter. He loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren and the many friends that he had made over the years. Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Francine (nee-Toy); was a loving and devoted father to Michelle (Chris) Gonzalez, Melissa Chobody and Cecilia (Todd) Angello; daughter-in-law, Tami Toy; amazing grandfather to 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; cherished brother to Mary Keating, Cecelia Butdorf, Annette Chobody, Helene Chobody, John Chobody and James Chobody; loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Anna Chobody, sisters, Barbara Hockenberry and Betty Pamley, son, Frank Toy and grandchildren, Megan Mendez, Greyson Garcia and Frank Toy Jr.. Per Joe's wishes there will be no visitation or funeral services. A private Celebration of Life Gathering will be announced at a later date.
