Joseph Jacob Begley, 94, of Elyria, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2018 at the Wesleyan Village in Elyria. He was born September 5, 1923 in New Straitsville, Ohio to James and Bridget (nee Dreese) Begley. Joe graduated from New Straitsville High School and he worked for Harshaw Chemical Company in Elyria for 44 years. He was a country music fan and a trivia expert; in 1985 he had a winning appearance on "Fandango", The Nashville Network's country music trivia game show. After retirement he discovered his love for travel, visiting California, Virginia, Las Vegas, and Nashville multiple times with his beloved wife Eileen. He was a member of St. Agnes Church in Elyria and the Society of St. Vincent DePaul. Joe and Eileen raised six children and he was a kind and loving father and grandfather, devoted to his family. His warm smile and genuine caring for everyone he met will be remembered by his family, friends, and all who knew him. Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Eileen Conrad Begley and his daughter Diane Katherine Begley, as well as his parents, his sister Mary Joyce Begley, and his brother John Begley. He is survived by four daughters, Barbara Almas (Ted) of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Nancy Wood (Tim) of Vista, California, Carolyn Mowrey (Mark), of Vista, California, Patricia Begley of Elyria; and a son, Joseph Patrick Begley of Elyria. In addition, he is survived by his six grandsons, Justin and Eric Sheriff of California, Travis and Angelo Begley of Ohio, and Kyle and Kevin Almas of Virginia. Memorial Mass 11:00 AM Saturday February 10, 2018 at St. Agnes Church, 611 Lake Avenue, Elyria. Reverend Father Albert Veigas, Pastor, will be the Celebrant.
