John Szill Jr., 83, of Elyria passed away Monday November 4, 2019 at the Elyria Wesleyan Village following a long illness. He was born October 18, 1936 in Cleveland and was an Elyria area resident since 1964. John was employed as an assembler at the Modern Tool and Die Company in Valley City for 15 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Elyria and the former owner of the Village Pizza in Grafton from 1968 until 1976. Survivors include his daughters, Julianne (Rick) Popowski, Marianne (Dennis) Teboe and Lisa Ann Szill (companion, Doug McConkey); son, John M. Szill; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, William Szill. He was preceded in death by his wife Judith in 1985 and a great-grandson, Christian. The family will receive friends Friday November 8, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at 1:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. The Rev. Fr. Charles Diedrick, pastor of St. Mary's Church will Officiate. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Brookpark.
