"Jack" Murtaugh
March 7, 1934 – November 19, 2021
John Thomas "Jack" Murtaugh, was born in Glover's Gap, West Virginia on March 7, 1934, thirty minutes after the birth of his twin brother, Jim. He graduated from Mannington High School in 1952, and married his high school sweetheart, Freda Glover on December 14, 1952. John worked for 40 years as a conductor on the New York Central, Penn Central, and Conrail railroads retiring in December of 1995. After retirement, he was employed for 7 and a half years at Mallard Creek Golf Course. John was a former member of the Midview Kiwanis Club, the Irish Heritage Club, the Moose Club, and the North Eaton Township Volunteer Fire Department. He was a Marshal and member of the Holy Name Society at the Immaculate Conception and Our Lady Queen of Peace Parishes. John served as president of the Holy Name Society and received the Holy Name Society Man of the Year award. He also enjoyed being an usher at 11:00 a.m. Mass for many years. John was an avid deer hunter. He enjoyed golfing and playing cards with family and friends, trimming the trees in his apple orchard, and making apple cider. John especially enjoyed spending time with family and being on the dance floor with the love of his life, Freda. Survivors include his daughters, Mary L. Duffy of Sheffield Village, Sandra K. (Lawrence) Ester of Elyria, Anna M. (Eric) Yeager of Wakeman, Theresa A. Pritt of Elyria and Michelle L. (Michael) Reisinger of LaGrange; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; brother, James F. (Jeanie) Murtaugh of Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife Freda P. Murtaugh (nee Glover); sister, Geneva Glover; parents James and Ula Murtaugh (nee Youst). Family will receive friends 2-5 PM Sunday, November 28, 2021 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at St. Rt. 57), Elyria 440-322-4626. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:30 PM Monday, November 29, 2021 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church 708 Erie St. Grafton, OH. 44044 (Please Meet at Church). Burial St. Mary Cemetery (Grafton). In lieu of flowers family suggests those who wish may make donations in John's name to the Church.
