John F. Downs 98, of Carlisle Twp. passed away Wednesday April 24, 2013 at The North Ridge Health Center in North Ridgeville. He was born in Carlisle Twp. and lived in North Ridgeville for many years prior to moving back to Carlisle Twp. John worked for many years as a meat cutter for Pete Ferraro Market and Downs Market in Westlake for ten years. He had also worked for American Standard and Tappan Co. in Elyria prior to retiring in 1980. John was a World War II Army Air Corp veteran, he was a life member of CBI Veteran's Assoc. (China, Burma, India), American Legion Post 12, and V.F.W. Post # 1079 in Elyria, Knights of Columbus Council #774 in Elyria, Lt. Francis McManus Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, and a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Grafton. survivors include a son; James Downs (Deborah) of Carlisle Twp., three grandchildren; Jennifer, Katherine, and James Downs. He was preceded in death by his wife; Rita (nee: Camp) sisters; Loretta Salter, Rose Gunderson, Marcella Downs, Mary Solet, and two brothers; Edward and Eugene Downs. Family will receive friends 2-5 PM Sunday April 28, 2013 at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57) where closing prayers will be at 9:30 AM Monday. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM Monday April 29, 2013 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church 708 Erie St. Grafton, Ohio where Rev. Fr. John Patrick Seabold, Pastor will be the Celebrant. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Elyria where V.F.W. Post #1079 will provide full military honors.
