John David Dixon

John D. Dixon, 64, of Grafton, OH, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2026. Born July 24, 1962, in the US Army Hospital ,Baumholder, Germany to Karen and Verlin Dixon, John grew up in Parma Heights, OH. After graduating from Valley Forge High School, John joined the US Army as a military policemanand was stationed in Würzburg, Germany. He earned a degree from the University of Akron, graduated from the police academy, and joined the Bay Village Police Department until his retirement as a lieutenant. With his strong work ethic, he continued to use his law enforcement expertise in a second career at Introtech in Grafton, OH.

He will be remembered fondly for his sense of humor and his generosity. He was an avid reader. John loved babies and kids and spent as much time as possible with his many grandchildren. He was always ready to talk about things like sports and music—or to give a movie recommendation. He enjoyed traveling and was a wonderful cheerleader to his grandchildren and to his wife Kathy for many running events.

John was preceded in death by his first wife, Janet, and his mother, Karen. He is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughter, Elizabeth (Blaine); son, Tommy (Danielle); stepdaughters Tess (Dustin), Kate (Matt), and Annie (Tyler); stepson, Joe (Nicole); father, Verlin; sister, Sharon (Bob); ten grandchildren, and numerous friends.

Friends and family may visit Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. at Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home (38475 Chestnut Ridge Road, Elyria, OH). A Catholic funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church (708 Erie Street, Grafton, OH) with a luncheon to follow in the church hall. Donations may be made to Our Lady Queen of Peace Church or the UH Harrington Heart and Vascular Institute.
