John C. Blackburn, 91, of Elyria, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025 at UH Elyria Medical Center. He was born in Pike County, Kentucky on February 18, 1933 to parents Sherwood and Quellie (nee: Trout) Blackburn. John proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He married his sweetheart, Shirley Marvell, in 1957. During their time together, John built the houses that he and his wife would share and raise their family together. He worked on the assembly line at Ford Motor Company for many years. John enjoyed fishing, playing golf, and oldies country music. He loved his family and was a great provider for them. John will be missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife of 67 years; son, John C. Blackburn, Jr.; daughters, Cheri (Carl) Hall, Margaret (Nate) McKinney, Jackie (Mark) Radca, Connie Lawson; grandchildren, Dana, John, Anna, Craig, Erin, Vanessa, Francesca, Sean, Rachel, Correy and 21 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Gladia Thacker and Shirley Milligan; brothers, Bruce and Lon Blackburn. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 from 4 p.m. until the time of service at 7 p.m. at the Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Road (at State Route 57) in Elyria where closing prayers will be recited at 9 a.m. Thursday. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church 41295 North Ridge Road in Elyria. Reverend Father Neil G. Walters, Pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be at Saint Mary Cemetery, Elyria where full military honors will be presented.
