Joan M. Laubenthal (nee Britton), 87, of Elyria, passed away peacefully at her home Thursday, February 27, 2025. Joan was born in Webster Springs, West Virginia, but lived the majority of her life in Elyria. Joan took great pleasure in many things. She loved spending winters in Florida with her husband, soaking up the sunshine and walking the beaches together. She loved decorating her home for the holidays, and her children and grandchildren truly enjoyed visiting because of the festive atmosphere she created. Joan also spent time gardening and planting flowers. Many of her flowers have been transplanted to the homes of her grandchildren and will continue to bloom for years to come. She especially enjoyed family get-togethers, cookouts, and playing games with the family, and was an avid fan of bocce ball. Joan also loved to sew, creating many outfits for her children, and even assisting with the pit crew racing attire that her sons were involved in. In addition, she also liked to bowl and will always be remembered for her unique style. She was also a cosmetologist, and enjoyed working, as well as using her own boutique at home to cut and style the hair of friends and family.

Joan is survived by her loving husband, Owen, to whom she was married to for 68 years.  A sister, Barbara Borer, of Louisville, KY. Her six children, Susan Ash (Orbin), JoAnn Pryor, Linda Laubenthal, Joseph Laubenthal (Catherine), Kathryn Hume (Eric), Andrew Laubenthal (Belinda). Her memory lives on with her eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roxie and William, her sisters, LaVonne, Carol, Myrna, and Frances, her brothers Philip, Delmus, and Lloyd, and grandsons, Christopher and Nicholas. Family will receive friends Saturday, March 8th, 2025, at the Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Road (at State Route 57) in Elyria from 10:00 a.m. until the time of memorial at 12:00 p.m. Burial at Brookdale Cemetery will be held at a later date.
