Jeremy S. Elliott, an armchair philosopher and lover of classical music, died peacefully in his sleep Nov. 30 at University Hospital in Elyria. Elliott was passionate about photography, and spent many years photographing people at events in Lorain County, local architecture, and in the local metro parks. He was a lifelong student, often taking college courses on DVDs in subjects as varied as world and American history, government, politics, and religion. He cared deeply about racial equality, justice, and the equality of the sexes. Born March 18th, 1934, he was, in his words, "born and raised in the asphalt jungle of New York City." Jeremy spent four years in the United States Air Force, and moved to the area and worked for the FAA at the Cleveland Center, Oberlin, until his retirement in 1984. Jeremy was a wonderful uncle and loving father, and is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Higgins, of Louisiana; a step-son, Charles, and step-daughter, Deborah;two nieces, Gwynne Heard and Wanda Elliott, both of California; as well as two close friends, Bill Keaton of Grafton and Lynette Paine, Amherst. No service has been scheduled, as Jerry requested. He will be cremated and his ashes scattered in the mountains of Wyoming. Donations in his memory may be made to the Lorain County Metroparks or the American Lung Association.
