Obituary

Janet Mae Haag (nee: Wissinger), 90, of Elyria, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, October 20, 2025 at New Life Hospice in Lorain. She was born in Elyria on August 12, 1935 to parents George and Eleanor (nee: McIntire). Janet worked in home childcare as a caregiver for over 20 years. In her spare time, she loved to sew and knit, especially with friends who would gather every year to knit headbands and scarves to donate to the Chronicle Telegram Not Forgotten Box. Janet served as a former Elyria Evening Lions Club President. She was the first female church council president of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Elyria, where she also served as a choir member and vacation bible school teacher. She was a Den Mother in Cub Scouts when her sons were younger. In her younger years, she participated in numerous bowling leagues where she excelled. Spending time with her family in the woods camping was also a favorite past time. Janet was well known for sending cards to friends and family for their birthdays and holidays, letting everyone know they were loved and being thought of.

Survivors include her children, Ed Sinegar, Mark Sinegar, Joel (Donna) Sinegar, Paula (Mick Harris) Sinegar, Julie (Charles) Shinn; daughter-in-law, Doreen Sinegar; step-children, Mel (Cindy) Haag, Jr., Scott (Theresa) Haag, Tom (Carol) Haag, Marsha (James) Flores; brother, Richard (Lynnette) Wissinger. She was blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Janet is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 42 years, Mel Haag, Sr., son, David Sinegar; step-daughter, Cindy Wilson; daughter-in-law, Regina Sinegar; grandson, Shaun Sinegar.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025 from 5 p.m. until the time of service at 6 p.m. at the Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Road (at State Route 57) in Elyria. Pastor Delisa Buckingham-Taylor will officiate. A private burial will take place at North Murray Ridge Cemetery in Elyria at a later date. In honor of Janet's memory, memorial contributions can be made to the Not Forgotten Box at the Chronicle Telegram in Elyria.
