Jane Angela Leavell, 71, of Elyria, passed away Monday, April 21, 2025 at Brunswick Pointe, Brunswick, Ohio after a long illness. She was born in Elwood, Indiana December 28, 1953, and had been an Elyria resident since the mid-1960's. She was a 1972 graduate of Elyria Catholic High School, and obtained her bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University in 1976. During her career, she was an English teacher at Lorain Catholic High School and a confidential secretary for Lorain County Children's Services. Upon retirement, she volunteered with the Friends of the Elyria Public Library. She also enjoyed traveling, watching old movies, genealogy, reading, and taking care of her cat, Mrs. Peel.

She is survived by her sister, Ann (Brian) Lander of Elyria, her brother, Thomas (Cindi) Leavell of Gainesville, Florida, her niece, Marie Lander of Avon and her nephew, Jeffrey Lander (Valerie) of North Olmsted, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Burl and Rita Leavell.

The family will receive friends and family on Saturday, April 26, 2025 from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. at the Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Route 57) in Elyria. Reverend Father Charles T. Diedrick, pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church in Elyria will officiate. Memorial contributions in Jane's name can be made to Friends of the Elyria Public Library 211 Second Street Elyria, Ohio 44035 . Burial will be at a later date at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Elwood, Indiana.
