Jane M. Eakins, (nee-Hummerich), 89, of Elyria, passed away Tuesday March 11, 2014 at the Elyria Wesleyan Village following a long illness. She was born June 18, 1924 in Elyria and was a lifelong Elyria area resident. Jane was a longtime member of the North Eaton Christian Church, was formerly active with the cub scouts, earning the Silver Beaver Award and enjoyed cooking and entertaining with family and friends. Survivors include her son, Robert (Lynda) Eakins of Elyria; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Zacovic of Elyria; brothers, David Hummerich of Fort Leavenworth, KS., and Louis Hummerich of Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel in 1996, sons, James in 1943, Gregory in 1949, and Bradford in 1983, sister, Marilyn Troup and brothers, Robert and Donald Hummerich. The family will receive friends Thursday (TODAY) 5:00-7:00 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Services will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Chuck Butcher, pastor of North Eaton Christian Church will Officiate. Burial will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
