James R. Michael, 82, of Elyria, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, April 21, 2025. He was born in Elyria on July 8, 1942 to parents Ralph and Frances (nee: Barnes) Michael.

James graduated from Elyria High School in 1960. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Kent State University in 1965 and a Master of Education from Kent State University in 1973. He dedicated over 35 years to teaching in the Elyria schools, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students.

A proud Jaguar car enthusiast, James owned several throughout his lifetime. He also had a deep love for dogs, especially Collies, and the Cleveland Browns. James was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Grafton.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Anne Nolan Michael; daughters, Josie and Mary Michael (Jesse Rowe); and grandchildren, Isaac Murray, Liam Murray, Elijah Rowe, and Hunter Rowe. James was preceded in death by his parents and his 11-year old son, Billy.
