James "Hans" Lenzer, Sr., 80, of Grafton, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024, at UH Elyria Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Germany during World War II to parents Alfred and Ursula (nee Borkert) on November 14, 1943. Hans and his family came to the United States through Ellis Island as refugees in the early 1950s and lived on a cattle ranch in Texas with a family that sponsored them through Catholic Charities. Later the family moved to Cleveland, OH. He worked a variety of jobs during his lifetime as a truck driver and production assistant at the Cleveland Ballet. After retirement he settled on his family's farm in Grafton. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading and telling tall tales at the Grafton VFW. Hans enjoyed spending time with his family and was a very dedicated grandfather. Survivors include his daughters; Inga (Don) Longwell, Ericka (Darrell) Smith; sons, Jim (Cherrie Tang) Jr., Dale (Michelle Spies); grandchildren, Patrick, Timothy, Allison, Sophia, Audrey, Erin; great-grandchildren, Tristan, and Alaiyah. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Richard, George, and Don. Memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, May 4th, 2024, from 1 PM until the time of service at 3 PM. Pastor Jeff Ahlgrim, Life Church, Grafton, OH will officiate. A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Hans' name can be sent to Grafton VFW Post #3341, 783 Huron Street, Grafton, OH 44044.
