James Bernard Hoffman, on Monday, January 13, 2020, Jim Hoffman, loving husband and father , passed away at age 86 after a brief illness. Jim was born on June 29, 1933 in Elyria, Oh. to Johnny and Marie (Heilman) Jezewski. He was later adopted by stepfather Wilford Hoffman. On April 7, 1956 his life changed forever when he married the love of his life, Shirley ( Pierce). They enjoyed a wonderful journey of nearly 64 years raising 3 children, enjoying 7 grandchildren and absolutely rejoicing in their 4 great-grandchildren. Jim graduated from Elyria High School in 1950 and earned a bachelor of mechanical engineering degree at General Motors Institute. He then earned a master's degree in management from Case Western Reserve University. After working at General Motors he worked at Luxaire and later became facility manager for the Ridge Tool Company in Elyria. He was the facility manager for the Federal Reserve Bank in Cleveland until 1996 before fully enjoying 24 years of retirement. In addition to spending time with his family, Jim loved golfing with friends and family, especially Eddie Bringman. He loved Cleveland sports and lamenting the state of the Browns. He was known for his work ethic, and in treating everyone equally in all aspects of life. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Johnny, mother, Marie, and stepfather, Wilford. He is survived by his wife Shirley, his three children, Lisa (Jeff) Bowman, Michael (Ginny) Hoffman, and Gregory (Dawn) Hoffman; grandchildren Cristy Bowman, Kelly (Steve) Canfield, James (Jennifer) Hoffman, Kevin Hoffman, Shannon Hoffman, Brittany (Nick) Serowski, Ryan Hoffman and loving niece, Kathy Olak (Conway).Family will receive friends 4-7 PM Thursday, January 16, 2020 at the Laubenthal- Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at St. Rt. 57), Elyria 440-322-4626. Mass of Christian Burial 10 AM Friday, January 17, 2020 at St. Jude Catholic Church 590 Poplar St. Elyria, OH. 44035 (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH). Burial St. Mary Cemetery (Elyria)., with a celebration of life lunch at St. Jude to follow. Rev. Fr. Joseph Scalco pastor will be the Celebrant.
