James M. Harris Sr., 85, of Columbia Station passed away Friday, March 16, 2018 at University Hospital Elyria Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born August 14, 1932 in Lockney, W.VA. James worked for Fruehauf for 19 years and retired from Ford after 26 years. He enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds and wildlife. James had a great sense of humor and a great love for family. Survivors include his daughters Norma Kendle of Columbia Station and Joyce (Bill) Thompson of Elyria; sons James Jr. (Deb) of Columbia Station, Donald (Phyllis) of Elyria and Robert (Lisa) of Grafton; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife LaRue (nee Saunders) in 2013, granddaughters Michelle and Dana. Family will receive friends 4-7 PM Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at St. Rt. 57), Elyria. 440-322-4626. Closing prayers will be Wednesday 9:30 AM in the funeral home followed by a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church 708 Erie Street Grafton, Ohio 44044. The Rev. Fr. John P. Seabold, pastor, will be the Celebrant. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery (Grafton). In lieu of flowers family suggests those who wish may make donations to the Church.
