James Floryan Anton 76 of Oberlin passed May 17 2025. after a resilient fight against cancer, he remained positive and hopeful throughout. He never complained and often joked.
James was the beloved son of the late Floryan J and Ruth Anton (nee Savage).
He is survived by his double cousins Robert Anton , Pat Cappelleri ,Phillip Anton, Fran Jackson, Daniel Anton and his cousins Mary Heidenreich, Diane Courtade, Gerard Donovan, Jean Amschlinger, Patrick Donovan
.James was a U.S. Army Veteran and retired UPS driver. He loved to talk about his Camper Trips with his mother to Peoria, Illinois to visit Family. He lived a few streets from his Grandparents and often visited with them and his Uncle George. When he was little the coal was being delivered to his grandparents. He ran down the basement and pulled a lever while his grandparents yelled no. The basement filled with coal.
During the Vietnam war he enlisted and requested a job as a photographer. He was stationed in Korea but traveled often. I asked him who protected him when he was in dangerous places and he replied that he did. He shot with the camera and his gun.
Jimmy started out working for the Cleveland Press. He went on to be a UPS driver. Even though his sight was failing. He often knew the best way to get somewhere.
Burial will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery10175 Rawiga Rd, Seville, OH 44273-9750(330) 335-3069 cem.va.gov on Tuesday June 3, 2025 at 2:45 PM. The United Sates Army will provide full military honors. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to The Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home of Elyria (440)322-4626.
