Jackie W. Canaday Sr. 65, of Elyria passed away Friday July 8, 2016 at UH Elyria Medical Center following a long illness. He was born July 21, 1950 in Sophia, WV. And was an Elyria area resident for most of his life. Jackie worked as an assembler at the Ford Motor Company in Lorain for 35 years, retiring in 2008. He served in the United States Marine Corps. In Viet Nam, and retired from the United States Air National Guard, stationed at Camp Perry. He was a member of the House of Praise Church in Lorain and the V.F.W. Post 8686 in Sheffield Lake. Survivors include his daughter, Jennifer Canaday; sons, Jackie Jr. (Gina) and Chris (Rebecca); 4 grandchildren; mother, Marie Canaday; sisters, Kathy Bowling, Georgie Williams and Lydia McKinney; brothers, Jessee and J.C.. He was preceded in death by his father, Jessee Canaday and sisters, Ethel Burgess and Janet Johnson. The family will receive friends Wednesday 4:00- 7:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Services will be Thursday July 14, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home, where full military honors will be provided by VFW post # 1079. Pastor Gilbert Silva will Officiate. Burial will be private.
