Obituary

Herman J. Plas Jr., 77, of Elyria passed away Thursday March 19, 2020 at the Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake following a long illness. He was born April 9, 1942 in Elyria and was a lifelong Elyria resident. Herm was a former co-owner of Plas Brothers Paving, served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and a member of most of the local fraternal and veteran organizations. He enjoyed gardening, especially roses and was well known for baking his delicious homemade cookies, which to their delight he shared with friends and family. Survivors include his daughters, Gayle (Josh) Harter and Vicki (James) Morrison; sons, Scott (Jodi) Plas and Mark Plas; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brothers, John "Jack" and Donald Plas. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Karlie Plas and brothers, Paul, Thomas, Justin, Richard and Joseph. Private graveside services were held Tuesday March 24, 2020 at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria. A Memorial Mass will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Ames Family Hospice House 30080 Hospice Way, Westlake, OH. 44145. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd., Elyria.
