Herman J. Kelling, 94, of Elyria passed away Wednesday April 21, 2021 at Community Health Partners Mercy Medical Center in Lorain following a brief illness. He was born October 8, 1926 in Elyria and was a lifelong Elyria resident. Herm worked at the Elyria Post Office as a clerk for 24 years, retiring in 1989. He served in the United States Army during W.W. II, was a very active member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Elyria where he served in many capacities, helped to start the C.Y.O. football program in Elyria and was a recipient of both the Eagle of the Cross award and the Holy Name Silver Medallion award from the Cleveland Catholic Diocese. Survivors include his sons, Joseph (Michelle) Kelling and John (Jennifer) Kelling; step-daughter, Jenifer (Ron) Mikulan; step-son, Mark (Barb) Takacs; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Jane in 2005 and his step-daughter, Renee' Takacs in 2018. The family will receive friends Monday April 26, 2021 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday April 27, 2021 at St. Vincent DePaul Church 41295 North Ridge Rd., Elyria. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. The Rev. Fr. John Retar, Pastor will be the Celebrant. Facial coverings and social distancing are required at all services. Burial will be private.
