Helga K. Sword, (nee-Walther), 75, of Elyria passed away Monday at her home following a long illness. She was born November 19, 1938 in Beienheim, Germany and was a Elyria resident since 1962. Helga worked as a cook at Hazel's Restaurant in Elyria for 10 years. She was also a homemaker and loved spending time with her granddaughters. Survivors include her daughter, Debra Lawson of Lorain; son, James (Amanda) Sword of Elyria; granddaughters, Shaunta (Jason) Dennis and Alannah Sword USAF; sister, Margot Munz of Germany; caregiver, Gail Hart. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond on January 29, 2014, sisters, Hildegard Wagner and Irmgard Major-Walther and a brother, Gerhard Walther. The family will receive friends Monday 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Services will be Tuesday June 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. James Deulley will Officiate. Burial will be at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
