Helen M. Wack, (nee-Kegyes), 99, of Elyria passed away Monday August 26, 2019 at St. Mary of the Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Avon. She was born January 18, 1920 in Elyria and was a lifelong Elyria resident. Helen was a parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Elyria, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and Mission Circle. She was an accomplished cook and volunteered as an event caterer for many years at St. Mary's Hall. In her free time, Helen enjoyed quilting, crocheting, crafting and traveling. Following the Hungarian Revolution in 1956, she housed many refugees looking to make a better life in the United States, until they were able to find employment and permanent residence. She was married to Walter J. Wack for 57 years. He preceded her in death in 1998. Helen was the last surviving member of her parents Julia and Louis Kegyes, brothers, Michael, Louis, George and sister, Julia. Survivors include her daughters, Roselyn (William) Evanich and Mary Ellen (Steven) Fisher; grandchildren, Jeanette (Timothy) Robinson and Rachel and Gregory Fisher. The family will receive friends 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria, where the St. Mary Altar and Rosary Society will recite the rosary at 4:00 p.m.. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday August 30, 2019 at St. Mary Church 320 Middle Ave., Elyria. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. The Rev. Fr. Charles Diedrick will be the Celebrant.
