Helen J. Smith (nee: Podraski) 92, of Elyria passed away Monday March 7, 2016 at O'Neill Healthcare in North Ridgeville following a long illness. She was born January 15, 1924 in Elyria. Helen was a 1942 Elyria High School graduate. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church ,The Altar and Rosary Society, and The Elyria United Polish Club. Helen and her husband were the former owners of Grafton Lanes. She treasured spending time with her children and grandchildren. Helen enjoyed attending Mass, bowling and working outside gardening. Survivors include two daughters; Christine Hechko (Larry) of Grafton, Leigh Ann Stefancin (Thomas) of Grafton, two sons; Douglas of Elyria, and Gary of North Ridgeville. Additional survivors include five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a brother; Walter Podraski. Helen was preceded in death by her husband of fifty two years; Howard L. Smith, a daughter; Carol Smith, her parents; Anton and Stella (nee: Shnadava) Podraski, and a brother; Stanley Podraski. The family will receive friends from 4-7 PM Thursday March 10, 2016 at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Friday March 11, 2016 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church 708 Erie St. Grafton, OH 44044 where The Reverend Father John P. Seabold, Pastor will be the Celebrant. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Elyria.
