Harris F. Opfer, 69, of LaGrange passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday October 2, 2011. He was born February 2, 1942 in Elyria and was a lifelong area resident. Harry retired in 2005 from the Elyria City School System where he had worked as a custodian. Prior to that he worked as a X-Ray Technician at EMH Healthcare, and also at the former Abex Corp. and former Elyria Foundry. He was a 1960 LaGrange High School graduate, an active member of the LaGrange Engine Club, was a member of the LaGrange Historical Society and the Lorain County Genealogical Society and also was a member of the North-South Skirmish Association. He was also a past scoutmaster in LaGrange and Elyria. Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Barbara (nee-Wallhead); daughter, Christine (Allen) Hall of Grafton; son, Charles Opfer of Lima; step-daughter, Tracey Britton of Elyria; step-son, Brett Britton of LaGrange; foster daughter, Donna Jenkins of Elyria; grandchildren, Kara Vasquez, Daniel McGann, and Zaynab Bari; great-grandchildren, Brody Hall and Chanel Vasquez; sister, Marilyn (Steve) Jencso of Medina and several nieces and nephews. Their will be no visitation. A memorial service will held on Saturday October 15, 2011 at 12:00 noon at the Washington Ave. Christian Church, 301 Washington Ave., Elyria. The Rev. Janet A. Long, pastor will Officiate. Private burial will be at LaGrange Cemetery, LaGrange.
