Harlan J. Riley 87, of Elyria passed away at EMH Healthcare in Elyria Tuesday August 30, 2011 following a long illness. He was born June 30, 1924 in Long's Creek, KY. Harlan had served with the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Navy. He had retired from U.S. Steel where he worked as a burner and welder. Harlan was a member of Church of The Open Door in Elyria, and had served as a Deacon at Buckhorn Presbyterian Church in Buckhorn, KY. He enjoyed time with his grandchildren, fishing, playing cards, and gardening. Survivors include two daughters; Alice Rym (Alan) of Elyria Twp., Marianne Riley of Elyria, a son; George (Donna) of Davenport, IA. Additional survivors include three brothers; Donald and Herschel of Middletown, OH., and Clell of Blackey, KY. Nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one great great grandchild. Harlan was preceded in death by wives; Ollie H. (nee: Hall) and Ella (nee: McIntosh), two sons; Alan Bruce, and Harlan Ray, his parents; Leonard and Nettie (nee: Mosley) Riley, three sisters; Sara Jane Troutman, Edna Mosley, Helen Riley, five brothers; George, Daniel, Bill, Chester, Leonard Jr. Friends may call 4-7PM Thursday September 1, 2011 at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd.
