Gordon R. Higgins, 89, of LaGrange passed away Saturday February 23, 2013 at Keystone Pointe in LaGrange following a long illness. He was born April 20, 1923 in Elyria and was a lifelong Elyria resident. Gordy was the owner of the former Higgins Electric Company in Elyria for many years. He was a member of the Washington Avenue Christian Church in Elyria, and served in the United States Navy during W.W. II. Following his retirement he lived in Sanford, NC. For 25 years, and enjoyed flying and boating. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Shirley (nee-Latterner); daughters, Patricia (Thomas) Spruill of Columbia, NC., Stephanie (Don) Novak of Elyria, and Rae Ann (Travis) Womble of Sanford, NC.; sons, Gerald (Debra) Higgins of Grafton and Joseph (Tamera) Higgins of DuPont, OH.; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Darlene Henes of Elyria. The family will receive friends Friday March 1, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. until the time of services at 7:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. The Rev. Dr. Janet Long, Pastor of Washington Avenue Christian Church will Officiate. Private burial will be at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
