George W. Thompson 78, of Elyria passed away at home on Friday May 23, 2014 following a short illness. He was born July 19, 1935 in Oberlin. George was a mechanical engineer, and retired from Bendix Heavy Vehicle Systems following over thirty years of service. He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Elyria. George treasured spending time with his family, wintering in Florida, bicycling, travel, golf and gardening. Survivors include his wife of fifty eight years; Joanne E. (nee: Younglas), two daughters; Sherry L. Albright (James) of Commercial Point, OH, Diane M. Page (Michael) of Elyria, a son Michael E. Thompson of Kapolei, HI, additional survivors include six grandchildren; Jimmy, Megan, Tyler, Melanie, Alex, Andrew, and a great grandchild; Drake, a sister; Elsie Wacker (Gary) of Sullivan, OH, and several nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents; Wilford and Theresa (nee: Fowler) Thompson, and a brother; James Thompson. All services are private. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Vermillion where Rev. Patrick Nicolino will officiate. Memorial contributions in George's memory can be sent to New Life Hospice 3500 Kolbe Rd.
