George John Iski

George J. Iski lived a long and adventurous life until the age of 91. There was only one George and those who knew him would agree. Three words described him; strong, determined and resourceful.

He was born and raised in Detroit, MI. until he entered the Air Force at the age of 17. During his time in the military, he developed a strong love of travel and airplanes. He would eventually get his pilot license and purchase his own plane.

After serving, George moved back to Detroit where he married the love of his life Rose Marie. Together they had three children. George became an air traffic controller and transferred to Oberlin, Ohio. He would remain a controller for most of his career. Afterwards, he and Rose Marie opened a successful business at Great Northern Mall in North Olmsted, Oh.

George did not retire quickly. He had many interests leading to several jobs; the Navy Finance Dept., the Ohio Dept. of Natural Resources and Ohio Investigative Services. Traveling the world was also a part of George's life.

He will be greatly missed by his children; Greg, Brad and Robyn (Donald) and grandson, Alex.

He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years; RoseMarie (nee: Lemon),  parents George Sr. and Anna (Lences).

The family will receive friends 4-6 PM Thursday September 17, 2026 at The Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Rd. Elyria (440)322-4626 where funeral services will be at 6:00 PM immediately following visitation.

Burial will be 2:15 PM Friday September 18, 2026 at The Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery 10175 Rawiga Rd. Rittman, Ohio 44270 where the United States Air Force will provide full military honors. Please meet at the cemetery visitor center.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Friendship APL or Lifebanc Organ Donation where George was a donor.
