George F. Chorak 96 of Elyria passed away Saturday January 9, 2016 at Main Street Care Center in Avon Lake following a brief illness. He was born August 26, 1919 in Lorain. George served in the Army during WWII from 1941-1945 and was the recipient of a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was the founder of George's Roofing in Elyria and retired from Bendix Westinghouse as an Inspector in 1984. George was a member of VFW post # 1079 and the Elyria Senior Fellowship , George was also the founder of the Thursday Senior Bowling League at Center Ridge Bowling Center. He enjoyed Bowling , Golfing , Fishing and Playing Cards ,shooting pool.Survivors include daughters Cherie Chorak of Elyria , Jan (Ken) Sooy of LaGrange , son Jim (Pat) of Lorain , grandchildren Jim (Chris) Walczak , Christy Walczak , Scott (Maria) Sooy , Kim (John) Jorgensen , Amy (Bert) Fitzgerald , Tabitha (Luke) Bender and Bailey (Bruce) Deulley , 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 yrs. Lois (nee Hunter) on September 12, 2002, parents George and Mary (nee Gelevan) , brothers John , Michael and sister Anne Yearley. George's wishes were for no visitation or services. Burial Private. Family suggests those who wish may make donations to VFW post # 1079 500 S. Abbe Rd. Elyria,Oh 44035.
