George Banjoff Jr., 85, passed away Friday, October 28, 2022, peacefully at home surrounded by family. He was born September 20, 1937, in Sheffield Lake, Ohio. He graduated in 1955 from Avon Lake High School and is a member of the Avon Lake Sports Hall of Fame for football. After high school, He enlisted in the Navy from 1955 - 1958. He was a member of the Seabee Battalion and held the rank of 3rd Class Petty Officer. He was stationed at Naval CBC Port Hueneme, California. He was also stationed on Kwajalein Island in the North Pacific. After returning from the military, he moved to Amherst, Ohio until he got married in 1962. After getting married, he lived in Elyria for nine years and then he and his wife built a home in Carlisle Township in 1973. He was employed with Ford Motor Company, Bob O' Donnell Distributing and finally Kerr Beverage Company where he retired as sales manager in October 1999. George was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Grafton, Ohio. He was a member of the United Polish Club in Elyria, V.F.W. Post 3341 in Grafton, V.F.W. Post 1079 in Elyria, A.M.V.E.T.S. Post 32 in Elyria, and the American Legion Post 12 in Elyria. He enjoyed bowling for many years and participated in the senior's group at Redman's in Lorain. He competed in a senior's tournament at Redman's and represented the State of Ohio seniors in Reno, NV. He and his wife bowled in a couple's league for many years at Center Ridge in North Ridgeville. He enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and at one-time visited Germany for Oktoberfest, casinos, family gatherings, reunions, spending time with his grandchildren, and fishing. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Helen "Holly" (nee Juke). Two sons; George A. (Gwendolyn) Banjoff III and John W. (Shelby) Banjoff. Grandchildren; Michael, Sierra, and Kilee. Sister; Gloria (Don) Kriebel, brother; Tom (Mary) Banjoff and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Margaret A. (nee Borsz) Banjoff Sr.; Brothers; Robert and C.J. Banjoff. The family will receive friends from 1-4 PM on Sunday November 6, 2022, at The Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57) Elyria (440)322-4626. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Monday November 7, 2022, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church 708 Erie St. Grafton, OH 44044. Please meet at church. The Reverend Father John P. Seabold, Pastor will be the Celebrant. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Elyria where V.F.W. Post 1079 will provide full military honors. The family would like to thank the Cleveland Clinic Hospice organization for their support.
