Celebrating the Life of Dr. G. C. Marsh (1930–2026)
General C. Marsh, a pillar of the Elyria community, dedicated veterinarian, and proud Marine Corps veteran, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026. He was 95 years old.
Born in Elyria, Ohio to Hobart & Mary Marsh, General was the second son of Elyria’s first wheelwright. Along with his older brother Donald, General carried the spirit of hometown pride with him throughout his intriguing and distinguished life.
After serving his country with honor in the United States Marine Corps, General returned to his roots to pursue an education at Ohio State for a career defined by compassion, precision, and a profound interest in veterinary science.
A Healing Touch and Humane Heart
For 38 years, Dr. Marsh was much more than a local veterinarian to livestock, domestic pets and wildlife, he possessed a rare "way with animals." Known for his unwavering commitment to the practice, he approached every patient with a blend of veterinary excellence and profound gentleness.
A Master Restorer
After retiring from his practice, General was rarely still. He appreciated the beauty of fine engineering and classic design. An avid Italian car enthusiast, restorer and collector, he spent years bringing automotive masterpieces back to their former glory. This passion for restoration extended to the water, where he dedicated countless hours to the meticulous preservation of Chris-Craft boats, finding enjoyment in the process of restoring with amazing detail.
A Celebrator of Life
We truly believe General insisted the best moments in life were those shared with good friends and family. He cherished celebrating life dining at his favorite places. His humor and stories of his latest restoration projects made every meal a celebration of connection. He is now reunited to celebrate once more with his beloved wife, Betty, who passed in 2015.
General’s legacy lives on in the animals he healed, the beautiful machines he restored, and the family that carries his memory forward. He is survived by three children, Steven, Dale and Wendy.
