Gail E. Barker, 79, of Elyria passed away at University Hospital Elyria Medical Center Sunday, October 3, 2021 following a brief illness. He was born November 2, 1941 in Big Springs, WV. Gail was a retired General Motors worker. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, gardening, and love of family. Gail was always willing to help anyone. He was a long standing member and a deacon of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife Emma (nee Bennett); daughters, Shelia Barker, Dawn (Jeff) Baker; son, James (Sherry) Barker; grandchildren, Justin, Sheena, Coy, Jamie, Felicia (Adam) Hyer, Alyssa, Cassidy and Austin; great-grandchildren, Emma, Marianna, Coy, Tucker, Leo, Jackson, Jace, Adeline, Emmett, Elijah and Colt; sister, Betty (Ron) Gerlak; brothers, Bobby (Phyllis), Richard (Kathy). He was preceded in death by his parents Okey Barker and Virginia Shaffer (nee Richards). Family will receive friends from 11 AM until time of service at 11:30 AM Friday, October 8, 2021 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd.
