Obituary

Fredrick Dempsey Sr. 70, of Oberlin passed away unexpectedly January 1, 2017 at Mercy Allen Hospital in Oberlin. Fred touched many lives, was loved by all who knew him, and will be greatly missed by all. He was born December 5 , 1946 in Gauley Bridge, W.VA. and was a graduate of S. Amherst High School and received his Associates Degree from Oklahoma Wesleyan University. Fred was a longtime member of the Living Word Wesleyan Church and a member of Foursquare church in Oberlin. He proudly served his Country in the Army. Fred enjoyed woodworking , building , fishing , camping , spending time with family. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to others and was very caring , Fred had a strong love of God and his faith was very important to him. Survivors include his wife of 26 years Joyce (nee Homme).; daughters Rachelle (David) Maassen and Kristi (Anthony) Perna both of Elyria; sons Fredrick Jr. of Oberlin , Thomas (Kristen) Edwards of Clarksville, TN, Robert (Alyson) Edwards of N. Olmsted, Patrick Edwards of Elyria , and Stephen Edwards of Clarksville,TN.;13 grandchildren;2 great-grandchildren; sisters Margaret (Mark) Reynolds of Oberlin ,Linda (Curtis) Wells of Ft. Lawn S.C. , Mary (Ed) Barker of Springfield, OH ; brother Jack (Darlene) of Camden- on- Gauley, W.VA.; additional survivors include his first wife of 22 years Shirley Ellan (nee Greene) of Lorain the mother of Rachelle, Kristi and Fredrick Jr.; several brothers ; sister-in-laws and many nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends 4-7 PM Friday January 6, 2017 and 10 AM until time of service at 12 noon Saturday January 7, 2017 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd.(at St. Rt.57), Elyria. 440-322-4626, where full military honors will be provided by VFW post # 1079. Rev. Mark Reynolds of Oberlin Foursquare Church will officiate. Burial Private. In lieu of flowers family suggests those who wish may make donations to Wounded Warrior Project P.O.
