Frederick Chip Maurer Jr.

Frederick “Chip” Maurer Jr., 69, of Russia Township, passed peacefully on the evening of August 9, 2026. Chip was a diehard fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cleveland Browns, model trains, and University of Kentucky basketball – quite possibly in that order, too. Chip grew up in Olmsted Falls and spent much of his life around the family excavation business (Cleveland Pipeline) started by his father. When his father passed, Chip took on the responsibility of keeping the business going, carrying forward the work his father had begun. To the people who knew him best, he will always be remembered for his knowledge of World War II history, his relentless curiosity about how things worked, and his willingness to show up whenever someone needed him. When the job required someone with a big pry bar, Chip was the one to call. He could always be counted on for a good story – whether it was recounting impromptu trips to Florida with his father to enjoy fresh seafood or memories of his favorite Browns players from years gone by. Above all, Chip loved his family and friends. He is survived by his wife and partner of 32 years, Deborah; his children, Frederick Maurer III of Florida, Christopher Andrew Maurer of Parma, and Diane (Brian) Blouch of North Ridgeville; his beloved granddaughter, Leona; his sister Patricia “Rusti” Maurer; his brother Richard “Fritz” Maurer; and many cousins, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick Sr. and Esther (Woodard) Maurer, his brother Gregory Maurer, and his son, Erick Maurer. Family and friends are invited to a graveside service at New Chestnut Grove Cemetery, 7789 Lewis Road, Olmsted Falls, OH 44138 on August 21 at 1 p.m. All are welcome afterward for cold Miller Lites and cheeseburgers without cheese at The Waterbury Clubhouse, 37800 Franklin Drive, North Ridgeville, OH 44039.
