Eugene C. Herwig, 88, of Elyria passed away Saturday September 10, 2016 at the Elyria Wesleyan Village following a 3 year battle with cancer. He was born September 14, 1928 in Friedens, PA. and was a Elyria resident since 1951, coming from Listie, PA.. Eugene worked as a machine operator at General Motors for 25 years and was a member of College Heights Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Ethel; sons, Larry Herwig of Grimesland, NC., and Dan Herwig of Naples, Fl.; daughter-in-law, Marla (Jerry, deceased) Herwig of LaGrange; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Rosemary Hyer of Elyria; brothers, Glen and Dale Herwig of Elyria and John Herwig Jr. Of Cleveland. He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Herwig and a brother, Jacob Herwig. The family will receive friends Monday (today) 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Services will be Tuesday September 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Pastor Darrell Deer will Officiate. Burial will be at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
