Eugene F. Alheit, 85, of Elyria passed away Saturday April 6, 2013 at his home following a brief illness. He was born January 28, 1928 in Elyria and was a lifelong Elyria resident. Eugene worked for many years at the Thew Shovel Co. in Lorain, where he retired as a expediter. Following his retirement he worked as a zone manager for the Lawson Milk Co.. He was a W.W. II Army veteran, a member of the American Legion Post 12, enjoyed going to casinos and woodworking and was a avid Cleveland sports fan. Survivors include his daughters, Linda Reaser of Grafton and Marsha Driggers of Elyria; sons, Gary (Robin) Alheit Sr., Randy (Joyce) Alheit, Dale (Julie) Alheit all of Elyria and Jeff Alheit of Grafton; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; brother, Don Alheit of Elyria; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (nee-Pasenow) in 1996, a granddaughter, Dayle Alheit, and brothers, Doug and Edward Alheit. The family will receive friends Wednesday 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Services will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Chuck Behrens will Officiate. Burial will be at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
