Estus E. Newton, better known as "Gene", was born July 1, 1939 in Athens, TN. and departed on Sunday December 3, 2017. Gene graduated from Ingealside Elementary in 1956, then graduated from McMinn High School . Gene went on to The University of Tennessee, and graduated with a B.S./ M.S. He married his wife Nancy in 1969 and moved to Mexico where he was a professor. Gene later moved to Ohio and was also a professor at Lorain County Community College. Gene became a computer programmer for The Board of Education at LECCA . Survivors include a daughter; Barbara J. Kemp (Jeffrey Perry) of Elyria, a son; Stephen G. Newton (Christine) of Grafton, five grandchildren; Steven, Michael, Melanie, Raymond, Michelle, three great grandchildren; Alea, Erin, Carter, his father; Estus L. Newton of Athens, TN. Additional survivors include a sister; Joy Runyan (Jim) of Ten Mile, TN., two brothers; Eddy Newton (Dianne) of Cleveland, TN, Jerry Newton (Barbara) of Niota, TN, and several nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his loving wife; Nancy B. (nee: Douglass), his mother; Frances L. (nee: Horton). Gene was loved and respected by many who will cherish his memory. Gene's family would like to thank everyone that was in his life and loved him. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
