Ernest E. "Ernie" Hume Jr. 84, of Vermillion (formerly of Elyria) passed away Sunday November 24, 2013 at New Life Hospice of St. Joseph in Lorain following a long illness. He was born July 25, 1929 in Detroit, MI. Ernie served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He attended college while working with Ohio Casualty Insurance Agency following his military service, earning a degree in law. As an attorney, Ernie practiced law in Elyria for forty four years, and had worked for The Lorain County Prosecutor's Office. He had been associated with the law firm of Pulito and Associates for many years. He was a member of The Masonic Lodge and Grafton V.F.W. Ernie really lived his life. He loved his Harley Davidson motorcycles, and traveled all over the United States, including several trips to Sturgis, South Dakota for Bike Week. He loved to travel , camp, and see the sights. Ernie was blessed with many great friends, and will be fondly missed. Survivors include two daughters; Susan Burton (Mike) and Tracy Homenik (John), two step daughters; Heather Murphy (Jeff) and Wendy Misner (Jimmy). Additional survivors include his grandchildren; Rob Grills, Bridgette Hawke (Troy), Steve Bakos (Ali), Thomas Bakos, John Homenik Jr., Kyle Homenik, Mark Homenik, Shelby Murphy, Jordan Murphy, and two great grandchildren; Ella and Davis Hawke, and his girlfriend; Mary Cercone. Ernie was preceded in death by a son; Ernest E. Hume III, and his parents; Ernest E. Sr. and Vida (nee: Thurman) Hume. The family will receive friends today 4-7 PM Tuesday November 26, 2013 at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. Elyria (440)322-4626. Funeral Services will be private. Burial and full military honors will be private at The Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
