Emerson Martin, 89 of Vermilion, passed away May 15th at his home. Emerson was born August 25,1935 in Kentucky to Sebastian and Victoria Martin (nee Muncie).

Survived by his daughters Linda Jones of New Port Richey Florida and Shirley Sharp (Steve) of Vermilion; grandchildren Matthew Hamilton, David Dillon, Kristina Gillespie, Justine Liddick, Ryan Kordish, Nicolas Kordish and several great-grandchildren. Emerson is preceded in death by his parents; children, Dean Gillespie, Tom Gillespie and Peggy MacKay; siblings, Hayes, Ben, Jerry, Ruth Stone, Macy McQuaid, Della Cole, Lorain Stone and Norma Jean Greene; granddaughter, Regan Denger.

Emerson previously resided in North Ridgeville and Nova, OH. He has been retired from Great Lakes Construction for 29 years as a general foreman. Emerson was a true outdoors person. He was an active member of the Richland County Gun Club. He enjoyed the camaraderie and competition. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, training dogs, playing cards and was a fabulous cook. As a teenager, Emerson was an amateur boxer. He loved watching sports, especially the CAVS, Tribe, Browns and Buckeyes. His biggest love was being a Papa and spending time with the grands. Everyone who knew him heard one of his stories!

Visitation will be held on Thursday May 22 , 2025 from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m.at the Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Road in Elyria (at State Route 57) in Elyria. Burial will be private.
