We are saddened to announce the death of Elmer Gerald Ehlers 91, of Elyria who died Saturday July 5, 2014 at his home. He was born August 7, 1922 in Lorain and resided in Elyria most of his life. Elmer graduated from Elyria High School, and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from General Motors Fisher Guide in Elyria as a Stationary Engineer following thirty four years of service. Elmer was a member of St. Agnes Church, The Holy Name Society, V.F.W. Post 1079, and Senior Men's Fellowship. He volunteered at The Elyria United Methodist Home. Elmer was devoted to his wife, children, grandchildren and church. Elmer is survived by his loving daughters; Patricia Sadowski (John) of Trenton, MI, Diane Auxer (Richard) of Raleigh, NC, Carol Kisel of Elyria. Elmer was deeply loved by six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great greatgrandchild, and a brother; Louis Ehlers (Maryann) of Elyria. Elmer was preceded in death by his wife of fifty one years; Pearl (nee: Cox), his parents; Louis and Lula (nee: Conrad) Ehlers, a sister; Eleanore Jones, and two brothers; Fred and Ronald Ehlers. Family will receive friends 4-7 PM Tuesday July 8, 2014 at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services where the Rosary will be recited at 3:30 PM Tuesday. Closing prayers will be 9:30 AM Wednesday in the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday July 9, 2014 at St. Agnes Catholic Church 611 Lake Ave. Elyria, OH 44035 Rev. Fr. Albert Veigas, Pastor will be the Celebrant. Burial will be at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Twp. where Amvets Post 32 and D.A.V Chapter 20 will provide full military honors.
