Edwin N. Solomon, known to everyone as Ed, passed away at his home in North Olmsted, Ohio, on July 8, 2026. He was 88 years old.
Ed was born on September 16, 1937, in New Castle, Pennsylvania, to Ephraim and Clara Solomon. He came to Cleveland in the 1960s and made the area his home for the rest of his life, settling in North Olmsted in 1989.
He spent much of his career in sales, working for many years in industrial rubber before moving into other lines of sales, and later into expedited freight, which he did for many years. Ed always preferred the open road to the sky, and driving suited him. It gave him time, distance, and the kind of quiet company he was comfortable with.
Anyone who knew Ed knew he was, quite simply, a mensch. Funny, warm, personable, and endlessly sociable, he had a gift for making people feel at ease. He was a longtime member of Temple B'nai Abraham in Elyria, loved playing tennis and golf, and was a devoted fan of Cleveland sports and Ohio State.
Above all, Ed was a wonderful father and grandfather. Steady, loving, and always present, he was the kind of dad and grandfather "Poppy" who showed up, made you laugh, and made you feel known.
He is survived by his daughter, Shani Sherwin; his three grandsons, Binyamin, Yonatan, and Akiva Sherwin; and his brothers, Robert (Barbara Jones), Howard (George Oliver), and Brian (Kathy) Solomon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ephraim and Clara Solomon. May his memory be a blessing.
