Edward W. "Ed" Webber, 81, of Elyria passed away Monday March 6, 2017 at University Hospitals Main Campus in Cleveland following a brief illness. He was born August 22, 1935 in Elyria and was a lifelong Elyria resident. Ed retired as the Meat Department Manager at the East Avenue Convenient Food Mart in Elyria. He attended Lorain County Community College and was a graduate of the Dale Carnegie Institute where he also worked as a graduate assistant. Ed served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, American Legion Post 12, V.F.W. Post 1079, Knights of Columbus Council 774, Elyria Elks Lodge 465 and the Elyria United Polish Club. He enjoyed fishing in Canada, New York and on Lake Erie. Survivors include his wife Ellen, (nee-Smith); former wife, Dolores Webber; daughters, Kelly Spivey, Denise Robinson and Cherie Yates; step-daughters, Marianne Galindo and Karen Myers; step-son, Joe Szlempa; 16 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard (Nancy) Webber and Frank Webber; feline companions, Lucian and Emily. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Mildred Webber and a brother, James Webber. The family will receive friends Monday 3:00-7:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Specialists 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday March 14, 2017 at St. Mary Church 320 Middle Ave., Elyria. The Rev. Fr. Charles Diedrick, pastor, will be the Celebrant. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Friendship Animal Protective League 8303 North Murray Ridge Rd., Elyria or to the canteen renovation fund at the American Legion Post 12 393 Ohio St., Elyria.
