Dr. Duane A. Abbe, D.C., 89, of Elyria passed away June 19, 2024 after suffering from Parkinson's Disease. He was born June 6, 1935 in Elyria to Dr. Norman D.C. and Maria Abbe. Duane was the great-great-great-grandson of an early settler of which Abbe Road is named after. Following graduation from high school, he earned an associate degree from St. Clare Junior College in Dayton in 1955. He then attended Great Lakes Chiropractic College of Cleveland, graduating in 1959. While furthering his education, Duane returned to Elyria and worked at the Ridge Tool Company to help fund it. In 1980 he became a full time Chiropractor establishing clinics in four separate counties during a sixty year career, working at his Elyria office until being forced to retire. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Keith M. Abbe, step-son Eric Stevens and brothers Marnon and Eldon. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, N. Leone; sons, Jeff, Todd and Chris; step-daughter, Becky (Scott) Miller; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends 4:00-6:00 p.m. Thursday August 8, 2024 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria.
